Oleksandr Usyk v Tyson Fury II: ultimate betting preview
The most anticipated rematch of the year is amongst us and here is how we will bet...
Good evening valued subscriber,
The most anticipated heavyweight event of the year is here. Dare I say, more so than the 1st. Before I joined Substack, I released a detailed preview on Youtube where I predicted that Oleksandr Usyk - the then underdog would win. Whilst he goes into the rematch as favourite, the case this time is far less clear cut. Infact, this fight throws up more questions than answers.
Tyson Fury may be the underdog this time but we cannot ignore the fact that he used his range to control the distance despite being on the back foot for most of the fight. Fury has extra ordinary reach and only needed to pot shot, flick the job and throw the right hand occasionally, avoiding combinations and risk leaving himself open to Usyk’s left hand which landed frequently.
Fury’s control peaked in round 6 where he landed to the head and body at will, hurting Usyk with the uppercut. The fight however did turn on it’s head in the latter half where Usyk staged a dramatic comeback with his constant pressure tactics culminating in a huge round 9 where he staggered Fury with a left hand before following up with a flurry of punches and knocking Fury down who was saved by the ropes. If not for a standing 10 count, it likely would’ve been a knockout win for Usyk.
In my opinion, the first fight provided big clues as to what we can likely expect in the rematch.
I delayed releasing my preview to wait for the weigh in which sadly turned out to be a sh*t show. Both men were in full gear so we do not have an accurate reading on their weight. As things stand, Fury tipped the scales at a career high of 281lb against Usyk’s 226lbs, marginally higher than the 1st fight where he was 223lb.
This is a whopping 55lb difference. Whilst large height and weight discrepancies are frequent in the heavyweight division, the intent is clear: both fighters are leaning into their advantages. Fury more so in this fight.
